Winegard Wingman!

I'm confused! Went to the local Rv Dealer to get a Wingman. He informed me that it wouldn't work on my Winegard Sensor because it might not be Digital? Why wouldn't it be Digital?/If the wings are Alumiumn and are not painted White, it is not Digital was his reply! Any truth to that? My Montana is a 2004.

    Call Winegard and ask them!
  • Ditto on the baloney about digital. I'm an RF technician. Modulation means nothing as far as antennas go.

I added the wingman to mine and there was indeed an improvement. However it is more sensitive to direction. I have since ditched the whole top part of the antenna and installed a Jack replacement head. It was specifically designed to work better in the UHF range and is not as sensitive to direction. It is a simple plug and play change and probably does not cost much more than the Wingman upgrade. I don't recall the cost but it was a good upgrade.
  • I put a wingman on the 1988 mh I owned two years ago and it made a difference. I tried to put one on my current unit but it would not fit due to where the antenna is in relation to the AC unit. So before you spend money on one check to see if it will fit when the antenna is in stored position.

I ended up replacing the old Winegard with a Jack.
  • Antennas are not analog or digital, they simply receive an RF signal. The form of modulation is not relavent to the antennas ability to receive. The wingman doesn't receive digital it simply improves the reception of the winegard antenna in the UHF band where digital modulated television signals are more common.
  • I will talk to Winegard Monday and report back! I checked their website and found a phone #.
  • My wingman helped a lot. Makes it more directional, tho. So you need to learn to point it. You can learn which direction to point it on the net.

Hogwash. All the antennas on the older models before digital TV's came out where NOT as he says "not digital", and they ALL 'receive' digital channels as is. :S

I added the wingman and honestly couldn't tell much difference. Low hanging moss in Florida snagged my wingman last year and bent it all to heck and I still get all my digital channels. :W
  • I just bought a wingman. I am going back to Kerrville Schreiner Park on Monday and will get to see if there is any improvement in the channels I can get.
  • The Wingman will work and improve reception on the higher channels. Works on all Winegard antenna make in the last 20 years.
