Winegard/Direct TV

The HR24 is very flexible. We originally used it with a slimline dish and HD at home and with a inmotion SD dish on the rig. We also had a 18" round portable dish. All 3 dishes used both tuners. Later we changed the rig to the RF Mogul dish with SWM with HD.

Still later we upgraded the house to the HR44 and SWM dish which gave us 5 channel recording and HD in both the house and rig.

We also had both the HR44 and HR24 for one month and I was surprised when the the HR24 could view all of the HR44 recorded shows. All that was required was a $3 SWM splitter.

We rarely watch live TV but rather record what we want, time shift and skip the commercials. We also have plenty to watch if the sat is blocked by trees so haven't seen the need to carry a portable SWM dish.

For those using SD receivers and sat dishes. There are reports that DTV will drop SD in 2019. So something to consider.

If you are only going to use a receiver in the RV an it will be connected to a dome then the D12 is fine. However, the H24 and HR24 (DVR) will also work just fine. You will need to change some settings to ensure the HD receiver displays the SD channels but that's easy.

We have two receivers that get used. one is an eleven, other is a twelve.

I have a HR21-700 and a HR24-100 Both HD DVRs. and both work fine with Winegard carryout. As others have stated you have to go through setup and make changes but not a problem. I printed setup procedure and have a copy at home and in the MH. Also as stated you have to make sure SD channels are shown on your guide. I have to use B Band converter at home but will not work if you use with Carryout.

Winegard says Direct TV will tell me I can't use the H24, but they say it will work fine.
Or a lesser receiver will work too. I guess that would be the D12-100.

For SD, do what DTV said to do
I move my little D12-100 between the house (oval 18x20) and the RV (single LNB KD) all the time, and I don't ever change anything.
In the house I plug it in
In the RV, I press the search button on the KD

When I had the HR24 I kept a list of the settings for home and a list of the settings for the RV. Besides the above suggestions for the different sat antennas this included changes for the different TVs.

With the H24 you will need to go into the satellite setup, settings and help, select satellite, repeat sat set up, press dash, set the dish to 18" and the multi-switch setting. Also set to single receiver. Select set up remote later. Do this before connecting to the dish. Once done, connect the dish and let it lock on the satellite and go through the boot up process. The receiver will do the rest. Make sure you don't have the guide set to hide duplicate channels. I won't show SD channel. If your dish locks on, you should not need to do anything else. Make sure the coax is connected to the Sat in 1. When you go back to the house you will need to undo all these settings. It only takes a couple of minutes. Chuck

The receiver I tried using is a HD H24-700.
