2004 Suzuki Vitara 5 speed 2 wheel drive

I am confused as to how to tow a 2004 Suzuki Vitara 2wheel drive 5 speed manual tranny.
Can I tow it with all 4 tires down from the front?
Manufacturer says to tow it on dolly facing backwards.
We have a Blue Ox bar with mounts on the front.
Manufacturer says its ok to tow a 4 wheel drive. Why not a 2 wheel?
Anyone with experience in towing this vehicle?

  • The 4WD transfer case has a neutral position which disconnects the drive train, thereby making the car towable 4 down.
  • According to Remco Towing Website:

2004 Suzuki Vitara ALL RWD I4 2.0L cyl 5-Speed Manual Manual
    Notes

*Towable as is with speed and/or distance restrictions. Please see Owner's Manual for confirmation and procedures.
*It is not recommended to tow this vehicle over 65MPH
*Stop towing every 200 miles and follow the instructions in the owners manual to circulate the oil in the transfer case and/or transmission.
*No formal testing has been done on this vehicle by Remco. Remco considers vehicle flat tow-able. Remco is not liable for any damage done to Transmission as a result of flat towing.

What does it state in the OWNERS MANUAL?

    Remco Towing Guide
  • Two wheel drive cannot be towed four down because the drive shaft turns the rear portion of the transmission. The lubrication does not get to this portion as the gears lubricate the back while driven from engine.
You maybe able to find drive line disconnect to prevent transmision from turning. Remco use to have them.
  • Check your vehicle's original manual. Or, if you think that it would be ok, and the warranty is out anyway, then tow away.

One thing I have seen some manufacturers suggest is to start the car and let it idle in neutral for a few minutes after a day of towing. This will allow it to push lubricant around in the trans case for a bit before driving.
