I think a short C with a trailer for the trike sounds pretty much ideal. Use the trike for groceries, etc. when that works and otherwise a short C is no problem to run to town in.
We've never towed a toad and have put 20k+ miles on the RV over the past four years (currently setting up to tow for more stationary trips around CO). We usually grab groceries/supplies while on the way somewhere or stopped for lunch which works out well. Disconnecting (if we have hookups) to drive to see/do something has never been a big deal, either.
I would recommend a full time bed (I would lean toward one on the floor based on personal experience and reading others' posts here, but I can see the draw of using the bunk as the full time bed...we'd just rather use it for storage - we never feel limited in what we can take with us).
