Bedroom Slides Leaking

Has anyone experienced leaking in their bedroom ward slides? My husband and I are going back and forth on getting a TT with a ward with a slide. He says no because they are prone to leaks. We did see a trailer on a sales lot that has a leak and it was a new trailer??? Now he doesn't want to consider one. Help?

  • The risk of water intrusion might be greater on a slide that has less travel. The wipers are not the actual seals but they flip in and out as the slide travels on some models. On a short travel wardrobe slide they might not fully flip and might gather water which can leak by a less than perfect seal. Just a theory so test a few and watch the wipers.
  • Any slideout can leak, just like any door, window or roof vent. Don't let that keep you from getting a bedroom slideout. That extra 18-24" makes a HUGE difference.
  • I have 3 slides. No leaks. Seals need to be in good shape. Inspect them thoroughly unless you're getting a warranty ;)
  • Other than 'possible' leaks - which can happen in any slide, you'd also want to be aware of condensation. Slides are not insulated and if the door is closed humidity or cold air will occur and you'll have a possible mold problem. A bedroom generates a lot of humidity just by your breathing and also with the bathroom being close. Personally, we would stay away from the wardrobe in the slide.
