The black tank is removable through a purpose built door into the side of the truck, I thought this is what qualified it as a cassette toilet?

Inside this door is also where I I found the blue stuff reservoir.

I Dont know? I am very new to this. There seems to be a small resivoir filled with "blue stuff" and it has a sight glass to show you how full it is. The toilet seems to hook up to the fresh water tank and when you flush it mixes blue stuff with water and it ends up in the main black water tank.

it sounds like someone has mixed the blue stuff into the fresh watter tank of your pottie. I ahd the smae thing when i bout my barely used pup.

In the thetford potties, on clear water goes in the flush tank.
The blue stuff is poured right down into the bowl.... well actually the "business end" below the bowl.

I never saw any ill effects from the blue flush in mine, but I've been told that it is bad for the seals.

Thetford Campa-Chem Original Holding Tank Deodorant. Pre-Measured Dry 10 Doses per box. SOLD AT WAL-MART ... et. al. RV supplies.

Used it for years and works great.

Thetford recommends Aqua Kem (green or blue) for their cassette and portable toilets. This has a different function than the assortment of chemicals sold to go into waste storage tanks. Many of those waste tank products are not suitable for filling a bowl you will be sitting over and splashing into.

Work with the model number for the toilet to find an instruction manual. From your description of the other stuff in that van, it may have been equipped with some "global" fixtures. Some of Thetford's cassette toilets, particularly those used in Europe, might be recirculating, or have their own supply tank, rather than drawing from the fresh water supply. These have different chemical needs than one that just uses fresh water.
