Blue toilet chemicals

Will a bottle of liquid blue toilet chemicals freeze if left in the camper over the winter? A friend of mine says that she left a small bottle of blue toilet chemicals on her bathroom sink in her trailer. She is afraid that the chemicals will freeze and the bottle will burst. She is in Florida and her camper is in Indiana.

  • Had one fall over in bathroom and it had a tiny leak which I didn't catch for a while. Had to replace the carpet and learned how to use the Geo method - I don't carry that stuff in the RV anymore. Been 15+ years and I don't miss the "blue stuff".
  • My blue stuff has always been in a storage compartment and been to -25 and never broke or leaked.
  • Where is it in Indiana? I'm in northern Indiana and it can get down below zero up here. I'd rather be safe than have to worry about it all winter.
  • This brand , 'Blue Streak Toilet chem' is good down to 10F. It would become slushy rather than a solid freeze at 10F. Call the mfg of her brand and ask.

I found my interior temps of my TT to be about 5-10F warmer than the outside air . I never had any brand freeze at outside temps in the single digits.

If still concerned about it or need peace of mind :
What about mailing a trailer key to someone in Indiana ?
If no key is available to give to someone, call the mfg and have them send a new key using her vin # for the trailer. If she doesn't have the vin#, there are ways to get it. Her dealers sales invoice or her insurance company will have it.

Remember, she only needs a dedicated key in she dead-bolted her TT lock. If she only used the paddle lock, its a universal trailer key .

Even if it does, it's not going to explode. It would just crack and dribble down the drain.
But I keep my toilet chems in the TT all winter and have never had them freeze.

The problem is that the bottle is sitting ON the edge of the sink and NOT in the sink. She is afraid that if the bottle cracks then the chemicals would leak onto her vinyl bathroom floor and stain the vinyl. I am not sure what brand of chemicals it is.

    Ooh, that's a valid concern.
I would deffinitely do what ever is need to get to it and move it.
    That stuff stains terrible.

I would not worry about it depending on the brand.

Here is the MSDS for Aqua-Kem.

As you can see there is two ingredients in it. Methanol and formaldehyde. Methanol won't freeze.

I keep it in my trailer year around with no problems and it can get down to 15 here.
