Buying a TT, Bunk "Room" vs Bathroom door to outside

Hello!

We are new to the RVing world and are looking to buy our first TT.

We are looking at a Forest River Grey Wolf 26DBH or something similar.

The floor plan we like is the one with the extra door on the outside that opens to bathroom. We think that will come in very handy with kids going in and out (and us adults as well) and not having to track through the camper. With this set up, we are finding that the bunks are just out in the "open" and the kids won't have their own room.

So now I'm wondering if we shouldn't go with the floorpan that has the kids bunks enclosed in a room and forgo the bathroom being easily accessible from the outside. Kids are only getting bigger and with the room the kids would each have their own bunk. With the open double bunk set up, at least one friend would have to share a double bunk because the sofa bed is so small even for my 10 year old.

Some information on us...
There are 4 of us. Me, husband, 11 yr old son and 10 yrs old daughter. We will travel just the 4 of us but we plan on having a friend for each of the kids as often as we can.

I can see pluses to each side but really want to hear about your experiences in the real world of RVing. I know that there may be a change in weight and length but that won't be an issue.

Thanks!
  • If getting that half bath camper, take an extra minute to consider where the black tank values and outlets are located. Really, check it out.
  • Our plan is to get the best of both worlds. An enclosed room bunk house plus a bath and a 1/2. That way, they get their own space, their own bathroom with outside access for all, and I don't have to walk through the trailer to use the bathroom. That obviously results in more length and weight, but that's our plan. We went to a RV show the other day and pretty much confirmed that's the way we want to go. I hope to see 1 in person at the RV show in Harrisburg next month.
  • My vote is for a bunk room. The kids need more than just a sleeping area.
A bunk room gives them a place to call their own where they can hang out and time to themseklves
  • Enclosed room. We wake up earlier then he kids do and it's nice to close the door. We also go just about every weekend in the summer and its nice for the kids to go chill in the room if they want. They can get dressed in there along with friends which is nice. Plus its more storage space with the extra cabinets. Look for the outdoor kitchen also as it is a feature we love.
  • Consider reenforcing the top bunk’s supports regardless of the manufacturer’s rating if you buy this TT.
  • Are you planning on staying at RV parks or campgrounds?

If you're going to campgrounds, I would go with the bathroom door to the outside layout.

Reason: your son at 11 will likely prefer to set up a tent for him and his friend. Then your daughter and friend can each have their own bunk bed, and the boys can easily access the bathroom at night without waking everyone up.

    :)
  • Well, are there any windows on the right side of this TT? I wouldn’t like that. Only 46 gallons of fresh water for four to six isn’t going to last long dry camping. Twenty grand indicates a very low level build. Six people in 26 feet will be crowded IMO. You have or buying a TV rated for 7725 pounds and at least a thousand tongue weight plus four to six people and stuff?
