Buying stripped down model?

Do any of you know of a manufacturer that would build us a custom trailer that omits the usual things? the issue is that we are not going to need or use many of the things that come standard in a trailer. We will be completely solar, composting toilet, and we wont' need propane (we are staunchly against using propane), we don't need a stove, nor a sink in the bathroom. We don't want extra walls, but one open space (maybe except for enclosed toilet area). We don't need a mattress or bedstand/box, nor do we even need a slideout. Just wondering if there is a way to get a stripped down model.
  • We will be completely solar - that's great!
Composting toilet - try one out if you have no experience
Where will you despose of the composting toilet "material?"
we wont' need a sink in the bathroom - hmmmm

But then again, if a person has sufficient carpentry skills to build out a cargo trailer into a camping trailer, they should have enough skill to add windows. Or they can hire someone to add them.

  • x3 on buying a box trailer. That sounds basically like what you want anyhow. If you search around, you may be able to find something for sale that approaches what you need (as a construction site office trailer, perhaps, or something along those lines).

Do be aware that, as described, you likely will not be able to register your trailer as an RV but will have to register it as a trailer. For the most part that doesn't really make much difference in practice. It does mean that, if your combined weight of trailer and tow vehicle is over 26,000 pounds, you will need a CDL to drive it (an actual CDL, not just a higher class non-commercial license such as some states require for large non-commercial vehicles or combinations). The state DMV or whatever it's called should be able to provide you with the legal requirements for an RV.
