Clean/treat seals on slide out awning.

What’s your secret to cleaning the seals (gaskets) under the slide out awning? My arms are not long enough. Inside I can reach, but not the outside. My method is putting a rag on a stick and using a small ladder. But somebody must have a better idea. Care to share?

Here is what I use soaked in 303 and about the same as you are doing, but this is much more compact, easy to use and convenient to store. I also use the single section with the rag as a way to clean and lubricate the slide seals between the seals and the slide surfaces where my hand with a rag is hard to get between because of clearances. The rag holder for shotguns is a great size for the rag holder for the slide seals. I used what I had and simple used a very long strip of cloth wrapped around and tied to form the "swab".

  • I'm about to tackle this project in the next couple of days. I think if I partially/mostly extend the slide, I'll be able to reach my hand far enough to do it from the inside. At least for the wiper. Not sure about the outer gasket.

    Very good idea.
  • At least one of the slideout rubber treatment sprays I bought at CW sprays the foam more than half the distance across the slideout. Just need to spray from both sides. HD and most hardware stores sell a spraygun type handle with trigger that locks onto the top of the spray can. I attached this to a wood rod and ran a string out to the trigger. Works with most sprays. BTW, I start with a full can and use whats left for along the sides and underneath. Only about half will come out when spraying on its side. Good Luck.
