If you were to buy a new RV, would you pay for this option? Or is this just a waste of money?
I would not own an RV without a main awning. We use ours all the time unless we are just overnighting. We also have awnings over each window which allows us open the windows even in the rain, provides shade.
For us, they are worth every penny. The only negatives are having to keep them clean and watching the weather for high winds. - Kit_CarsonExplorerTo me, an awning is just like insurance......you don't need it until you need it. I would not want an RV without one.
- EffyExplorer III had no idea it was an option. I've never seen a new RV without one. Yes they are nice for shade and in case it rains and you still want to be outside etc. Just exercise care in the wind.
- robsouthExplorer IIAn awning is a "must have" for me. Rarely set up without the awning extended.
- lots2seeinmyrvExplorerI could do without the awning, every where we camp the wind kicks up and we are running to close it.
I would like the window awnings like Airstream has. And bring a patio umbrella that we could move around. Sometimes if we are in a back-in we like to sit behind the RV. - Dick_BExplorerEven tho we don't use it much I would want it again for those times when the sun is to bright/hot we can't stand it and/or for resale value if we don't plan on keeping the rig for long.
Ditto covers over the slides which we wouldn't do without. - korbeExplorerIt is nice to be able to create some shade when there are no trees around.
- I would never own a trailer without one... Not sure what the benefit would be of getting one without ??? Just the fact that it is there and can be used if you want to sit outside in the light rain and stay dry... or sit outside and stay out of the sun when you have no trees... I THINK they are standard on almost all except maybe pop-ups ??

A manual awning is useful. A power awning needs to be retracted if there is any wind or rain rendering it useless.
What exactly is the difference once they are both out? My power awning does not have to be retracted in any wind or rain. Save that discussion for another thread.
Most people use their awning to provide protection from sun and rain. We find it very useful.
