Does heat from fireplace damage lift TV?

I would think that if the TV is down in the cabinet when the fireplace is operating, the heat would damage the TV. Maybe the logical answer is to have the TV up above the cabinet when using the fireplace, but if it is during the day, we may not want to obstruct that window with the TV.

Does anyone know about this?

  • The "fireplace" has to be rated not to transfer heat to anything behind it, otherwise a serious fire hazard would exist. If you look at the specs for that "fireplace" you will find that it probably has a zero tolerance specification for placement against anything at the rear. It is designed to transfer all heat to the front. The television should be OK.
  • My fireplace generates very little heat behind it. I installed mine so it was one of the things I checked for before closing in the cabinet.
  • Our tt fireplace has an option to run the fireplace with or without the heater portion of it, flames only or with heat.

Not quite sure what you are talking about, but I heat with wood and our TV is right beside the wood burning fireplace. and it never has been hurt.
I am guessing that the area near the TV is usually about 80 degrees.

As I am writing this, it is blazing away and my wife is watching the TV.

I wouldn't put the TV above the fireplace. Heat rises, and it is much hotter a few feet above the fireplace

The newer rigs have TVs in lift cabinets that go down behind the electric fireplace. It is out of sight in the cabinet, but comes up via electric motor lift.
