Since we want the kids to see America we suck it up and drive. From before dawn to well after dark. 800-900 mile day if thats what it takes to get home. Of course I'd prefer less than 400/day but I don't get that much paid time off.
We'll join the rest of you taking it easy in retirement (hopefully).
Been there, done that. Applaud your decision to give your kids a great experience.
But you are going to LOVE being on the road after you retire.
Last year an employee of the COE project where we were volunteering was telling how rough it was towing his popup home in a storm the day before.
He asked me "What do you do with that big trailer in such weather?"
My answer "I don't go. I wander down to the CG office and pay for another day."
