Just bought an earthroamer- need some help

I don't get my ER until October, but I'm starting to think about trips. Really the rig is more of a ski rig, but we're going to do some east coast travelZ here's my question- it seems rather pointless to bring the rv back to our home state, because we will be commuting to Chicago.

So the idea is that we will drive around and see spots for a week or so, and then will find temporary spots that are covered for a month or two, and then fly back to resume our trip. Is this practical? I'm sure we pay a little more but I would hate to drive back to Chicago every time to resume our short segments here and there, or is this what people often do that aren't full timers? Thanks!

  • Each to their own but I think its a bad idea all the way around. Forget the parking of the unit, that would be the small part. Each time you would have to clean out the inside of all parisable food etc. Turn off the frig. clean it. Then once you start back again fill everything up. So that brings to mind you will have to rent a car at each spot so you can get around. I think you might want to make other plans. But either way good luck
  • Finding short term covered parking is probably your biggest challenge. Might be easier if you pick an area, say Colorado, and find a central spot to leave it there for a year. Then move a year later to another area and do the same thing. That would centralize your areas and let you do less driving. Plus if you park near a major airport would make it easier for you. At least around here covered parking is rare and booked up usually with a waiting list. You might use Craigslist to find some short term parking, perhaps somebody that rents a large garage might have space and like the added cash.
  • Finding short term storage out here might be an issue. It took us several months of searching to find an open spot.

Your definition of 'practical' seems unbounded by budget. ;)
