Negotiating a Purchase

My hubby and I are buying a new TT this year. If you factory order a TT, do you lose bargaining power? if so, does it make sense to buy what is on the lot and add options later?

Nope. I found a price for my Jayco on RVDirect.com. Took that price to my local dealer. They came within about $300 of RVDirect's price. The factory ordered my trailer with the options and color patterns that I wanted. I got about 36% off Jayco's listed MSRP.

That's what I did too. Got a price on the FR Windjammer we wanted from rvwholesalers.com and rvdirect.com and found a local dealer to match it. Dealer did not have to do anything other than handle the paperwork. We did the factory order too.
  • When we ordered our Endura we got huge discounting even though it was ordered from the factory. Start aggressively and then see how it goes.
  • take at least 30% off what ever the sticker is, the msrp is just numbers some body made up.

  • you always have bargaining power. figure out what is a fair price that you are willing to pay and offer it. if they don't take it, walk. I have had salesmen chase me across the parking lot after I walk. While they would like to unload some slow mover on the lot, they have virtually no large cost in ordering you one.

  • Depending on how long a unit has been in the dealer's stock can influence how deep they will discount. They prefer to sell from stock (especially smaller dealers) because often they have costs for flooring the in stock units. Given the choice to sell one they are paying flooring charges on and one being delivered straight from the factory, they prefer the former. Under neither circumstance should you ever pay MSRP.
  • no. I asked about a keystone RES321 and they run any where from 52K to 42K and they were going to give it to me for 36K
