You see this several times a day - when someone is the first person to post a reply to a question, why do a number of people use the QUOTE function to reply with instead of using the REPLY TO TOPIC function? Since they're the first responder, there can't be any question or doubt as to what they're responding to. By using the QUOTE function, it just clutters up the posting by taking up unnecessary space with the quote. There, now I can go take a nap - it's been a rough morning.....Bill

Probably just a habit, since most often one is not the first responder.Also, I believe there are some people who don't pay any attention to any other replies, or even care if there were any, because they believe what they have to say if final and complete. How dare anyone question them, or god forbid, disagree with them.

Just wish people would learn how to snip the quote, no need to copy the original page long post.

What is even worse is 1 page (about 6 posts) and someone chimes in with a solution about an hour after the OP says the problem has been fixed. So this means they read only the very first post.

A pet peeve of mine is when there is a hot topic with say 10-20 or more pages of posts and along comes someone who starts with "I haven't read through all the posts but ...." Seriously? :h

Not too surprising, since over half the responders thus far could not discern that you were only asking about the FIRST responder. :S

No guarantee that '1st responder' will actually be the 1ST RESPONDER.

I have read a post..no other responses and by time I have actually posted my response there could be one or two other posts.

I have even seen where my post shows up and then come back to it later and posts that were NOT there before magically show up

SO that is one other reason I might quote OPs post

I always try to snip out stuff that's not needed in my reply. :R

Does anyone dislike the constant motion of some posts and adding a bunch of the motions? :h :h :S :S It's really hard to read and most of the time I skip over these. :E :p :R :W :Z :Z

I completely agree with this answer. It isn't necessary to quote an entire post (especially the photos), only quote that part you are responding to. But some posters get annoyed that someone only took a part of their quote and "quoted them out of context."

You just can't win, sometimes.
