The link offered in the second post is woefully out of date and cannot be trusted. Even the NRA site from the eighth post is not current. Wisconsin has both concealed carry and a castle doctrine enacted in 2011.
It looks like there are two issues here:
1. Concealed carry
2. Firearm transport
There are a plethora of concealed carry laws and reciprocity arrangements. These sites seems to be the best available on concealed carry laws
http://www.handgunlaw.us/ http://www.usacarry.com/concealed_carry_permit_reciprocity_maps.htmlUp until the late 20th Century most states allowed transport of legally owned firearms within a vehicle as long as it was unloaded, in a case, and ammunition was separated from the firearm. There were few states that required a firearm to be transported in the trunk or other storage area separated from the passenger compartment. Indeed, there were and still are states where firearms can be transported unloaded and uncased, and especially during hunting seasons can be transported with rounds in the magazine but not in the chamber. While there are many gun rights groups that try to compile gun law information from all the various states into one source, it is best to check the laws of each state you intend to transport or carry a firearm from an authoritative state source.
