Probably because in a 100 site RV park there is almost always one incessantly barking dog left alone in a rig. It gets really, really old enforcing any kind of policy. The norm is we finally get ahold of the person. They apologize profusely and tell us it will never happen again. The dog is then left alone to bark incessantly the next day and we notice that they are scheduled to leave the next morning anyway, so there is really nothing we can do short of tossing them out and create a big scene at 9PM when they return from their day trip. We then take the path of least resistance and say "What the Flip" and let nature take it's course and wave goodbye to them in the morning and then start following our ears to the next problem pup. It's only one dog, but they disturb entire sections of a park. Doesn't take too many for it to be a constant problem for both the park and the guests.
Good grief...... some ppl need to chill out. Just because some dogs don't know how to behave or have irresponsible owners, you lump all dogs and dog owners in one category?
Get real - there are wife beaters out there - does that mean all men are wife beaters? There are women who can be real shrews - does that mean all women are like that? There are children who are neglected and unsupervised - does that mean all kids and parents fall into that group? Some people steal - does that mean all people steal?
I surely don't understand the attack this thread took on, against dog owners.
Wouldn't it be more convenient for you to ban dogs from your campground? It wouldn't bother most dog owners one bit avoiding your place all together. You never know when those yappy ones will show up. But I'm sure that would bite a little into the revenues wouldn't it. You could do us a favor by letting us know the name and location of your campground. I would be happy to pass you by during my travels. No hard feelings either.
I muct have missed something here. WesternPO didn't jump on anyone, didn't say he wanted to ban dogs. Was just honest about what happens at the CG he runs. He didn't toss the bad dog owner's as I personally believ he should have, He let them stay another day, and bother even more people. But it seems you took exception to him being nice to the bad dog owner's. It's just possible, he wil be glad to NOT have you visit his CG.
It seems you overlooked his/her scripture post? Sure seems like he/she has some bias. Personally I find these dog threads amusing. The good dog owners way out number the bad ones. We don't hear those stories. As some have indicated, there are many of us dog owners who go out of our way to make sure the rest of you are happy and enjoying your time. That's more than I can say for the "unattended" kids running through everyone's campsite, the loud drunks keeping everyone up all night, those shooting off fireworks, golf carts being operated by people who shouldn't drive a car much less a golf cart. But I have been able to live with it when I camp. I've been camping for over 40 years and have never run across a barking dog problem. Can't say the same for the other things I've mentioned. - CincyGusExplorer IIThs solution is that if a dog is disturbing you due to being unattended, complain to the manager or ranger that the rule is being broken. If the drunk guy is a problem, report him also. If the music or conversation around the campfire is too loud after quiet time, there is a phone number or office door to knock on for that.
Some people are polite, considerate of others and follow the rules, some don't. Human nature for some people is to do what they want without thought to how it impacts others.
You get what you create and tolerate.
I am a dog owner, I love animals and I bring mine camping about 70% of the time. If we have the dog, someone stays with her 100% of the time. If we are camping somewhere we are going to be taking day trips where she is not welcome, she doesn't come to that campground with us. She is solcialized to other dogs and strangers and barks rarely, and we control her, pick up after her and she adds to our enjoyment of camping. I have had other dogs that were not as well behaved in a public setting and they did not travel with us but were boarded or left with family to take care of while we were away.
Personal responsibility, by both the dog owner and those affected by animals who's owners don't think about others or rules apply to them is the answer. Control you animal, follow the rules ans report violations will weed out the problems. Ignore it, tolerate it and you are are no better than the folks in denial that their Fido is a problem. - Go_DogsExplorerThis thread is bound to give some beginners the HeeBee-GeeBee's! Bottom line, when you start going to public campgrounds, you will encounter 'the public'. They can be stupid, rude, cruel, drunken, noisy, etc. They may treat their family/pets, differently than you would wish. Try to learn how not to be, from these people.
If you feel that you will not be able to deal with 'the public', don't go to a public place. 'The public' ain't going to change, any time soon. - flyinguy68ExplorerAs I write this, there are 7 pages of bickering back and forth. The bottom line is that- "It has always been a few that ruin it for the majority". It's not exclusive to dogs, kids, alcohol or even RV's. There have always been humans that are either clueless, lack common decency or just down right rude, and as the human population continues to explode there are fewer and fewer places to escape these people.
- LockyExplorerLast year we brought our dog with us for the first time. We left him in the trailer and walked up to the camp office. We were only gone for 10 minutes. When we got back the people camping behind us told us that the dog barked the whole time. I apologized and thanked them for letting us know. When we went into the camper he had the screen tore out of the bottom of the door. We were a little surprised that he did this. He is a perfect dog at home. Never has chewed anything and the only time we hear him bark is if he is outside and there is somebody walking through our woods. We are currently camping as I type this and I bought the Sunbeam Sonic Egg at Petsmart. We are going to try it out today. We are going to take a walk and our friends next to us will let us know how it goes.

Given the varying degrees of rule interpretation seen here, there's only one interpretation that matters: the park owner's.
I wonder how it would be accepted in a park to leave a recording of a dog barking playing all day. Or loud music. Or people having sex.
probably wouldn't mind the having sex one lol. - BumpyroadExplorer

The generalized interreptation of the Rule in question concerns leaving a Dog outside unattented. !!
hogwash. if "outside" was meant, it would have been worded that way.
but please explain to me what "interreptation " & "unattented" means?
bumpy - RollnhomeExplorerBig thing about it is unless the unattended dog is staying for more than a couple days not much can be done. Leaving a dog tied up outside is the worst. What if the dog gets loose, knocks over his water dish, or a young kid decides to play with him? Oh that's right he doesn't bark or bite. What if someone else's dog gets loose and attacks your tied up dog? Too many what ifs for me.
- UsualSuspectExplorerI have 2 dogs, and if the rules say no unattended dogs, they go where I go. This past winter the folks next door left at 4 am, and left their dogs in their RV. The dogs barked until 9 am, not sure why they stopped. I left a note on their door letting them know. The guy came over, did not apologize, instead told me I must have been doing something to scare his dogs. I had planned on staying a week, I went to the Office, asked for a new space, they said they were booked. I then told the Manager I was leaving and why. He then went over and advised them to leave. They told the Manager the dogs were inside so the unattended rule does not apply. The Manager told them unattended means unattended, leaving them in your RV while you are not there is unattended. I stayed the rest of the week. Your dogs may be quiet when you leave, and folks may be polite and not saying anything. I have dogs and don't like repeated barking, a bark every now and then is expected, but not constantly for hours.
- livingaboardExplorerI don't care what signs say what or what people think what...I just don't want to hear a damn dog or dogs barking while I am camping. Period!
