Is it legal to carry a firearm into a bank to put the gun in a safedeposit box? the banks here have signs stating that firearms are not allowed except by on duty officers.
USUALLY, such signs are aimed at people who are carrying loaded, concealed weapons, not at people who have an unloaded gun in a briefcase for the purpose of placing or removing it from a safe deposit box.
In many states, businesses post such signs, but they have no force of law. Unfortunately, in WI, such signs DO have the force of law. See:
http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/wisconsin.pdfIn your shoes, I would write to the bank to inquire whether they would allow for the storaqe of unloaded guns in their safe deposit boxes. I say write, because that way they would have to respond with a letter, that I would keep as proof that I had permission to do it, if something ever came up down the line.
Personally, I would seek an alternative financial institution that DIDN'T have signs posted. Possibly a credit union would be more in tune with their members.
