Video Series Documenting our Noob RV Shopping Experience

We're totally new to RVs. We rented one for 4 days to get a feel for what we would and wouldn't like, and now we're starting to shop and learn what we do and don't want.

It's impossible to know exactly what's going to work for us, but we're doing our best to educate ourselves. We sold our house, and we will be living in this RV full-time, so we want to make sure to get it right. Technomadia suggest "buy your 3rd RV first" and we're trying to do just that... only we don't know what our 3rd rv will be...

We'd love to have the experts of rv.net following along and sharing your wisdom to help us find the right RV for our needs.

  • Good luck with your search and stay close to your wants and not those of others.

At this point in my life, I've a pretty good idea of what will make me happy: multi duty stuff; easy clean (Get that carpet the heckenspeck away from me-GRRR!),low maintenance/upkeep of the mechanical system and my idea of "eye pleasing"; pretty much in that order. Been working from home for almost 2 decades so I know how much space I need for that (20 sq ft and fantastic telecommunications capability, LOL). Don't want many guests and feel no need to impress them so I've finally reached my me-me-me period. The man is already retired so he doesn't care much what we do as long as it doesn't require too much deep thought from him. Wish I'd figured all this out about 25 years back but prolly wouldn't have appreciated the mind set.
  • Just watched a couple of videos. Good job. I wonder, on the no-hot-water issue if the water heater bypass had been left on from winterization. I did that - forgot to flip the bypass off - and has the same effect: just a cup of hot water.
  • Interesting Videos!!
After three previous coaches, we are now in our 'last' coach.
We spend about four months of Winter in the South, four months of Summer in the North and four months sightseeing this wonderful country of ours (and Canada on the way to & from Alaska). And we did do the escorted Copper Canyon trip (motorhomes on rail flatcars North to South) before it was stopped by the Mexican government. LOTS of happy memories.

Our first three were gassers - we now have a mid-entry DP and it is GREAT!! There are many pros and cons for almost any rig, so make a checklist and follow it - do not let emotion or fancy gee-gaws sway your basic needs. (I am happy to provide a couple of extensive checklists if you send a PM to me.) Get the 'best' rig you can afford (with the floorplan you like) the first time and then don't look back - go on and have a GREAT RV life. See the country, schedule trips to festivals and events that are of interest (Music you like (anyone for Barbershop?), car racing, food, sports, and be sure to take-in Quartsite and the Arizona Hot Air Ballon festival in your travels.
  • Good luck in your search. We spent the first half of the year doing the same thing--but since our coach is primarily for weekend trips to running and cycling events, we knew we wanted either a small Class C or a Class B. We ended up with a Jet black 2016 Winnebago 70X which we bought from McClain's RV in Denton Texas (just north of Dallas). We are blogging our RV experience at www.era70x.com. In our blog, you'll see what our concerns were, questions for the PDI, and our ongoing warranty resolution activities. Overall, we are happy with the purchase--having had 3 roadtrips so far. Best, Mike
