Water pump

I recently filled my tank (don't often do it, as we camp full hook-ups), turned on the pump to ensure everything was in working order in case we wanted to dry camp. Two days later I went in the trailer and could hear the tell-tale whirl of the the pump trying to pressurize the system.:h

I never closed the drain plug to the tank :S

Told ya we don't often fill the fresh water tank.

Ours is off unless we are using water. We have a 2 gallon accumulator tank, so for small volumes we still don't have to turn on the pump.

That tank will get us through the night with multiple toilet flushes. That is good because the water pump is in the space below the bed.

No reason NOT to leave it ON while you are parked and at or near the RV.....since you can hear it when it's running.....probably.

Should shut it off while moving though because a leak can drain the tank and burn out the pump.

I always leave mine on for the same reason that I leave the spigot valve on when connected to a water source.

If your water pumps turns on and off for short amounts of time (usually only seconds) when no one is using water, check your faucets and piping for any leaks. It may just be a water faucet not closed all the way, or it may help you find a small problem before it becomes a big problem.

We use our fresh water tank exclusively and have the pump on when we are in the RV. Whenever we leave, the pump is turned off (don't forget to turn off the water heater too). We have about a dozen water leak detectors located in key places. They are cheap insurance.

X2 on only when you need it. Leave it on during the night, however.
We also turn off the pump when leaving the rig for any length of time eg. sight seeing or meals and when on the road, for the same reason.
At Rest Areas we turn it on to use the facilities and turn if off when getting back on the road.
