The awning is out only when we're home and it's used to shade that side of the RV from hot afternoon sun (to reduce the load on the ACs). When we leave it goes in as we never know what the weather will do. At night if there is any question about the weather it goes in. A few months ago, the 1st time in about 10 years I did not bring in at night when there was a question about the weather it cost me a complete new awning. :)
