First let me say welcome. Taking you family camping is a lifetime of memories. Second forget about fuel mileage. Read some threads that talk about how to figure out how much your truck can actually tow and not the magical sticker in your door. The 6800# was probably calculated with a low profile trailer with a light hitch weight. The other thing is to forget mpg while towing. Say you go 100 miles to a campground and your mileage goes from 20 mpg to 10 mpg. You will use 20 gallons round trip instead of 10 gallons. 10 gallons of fuel is $20-$30 difference. In the overall cost of things if $30 is going to bust the budget you might as well stay home. This is also the cost of 1 nights camping or a bottle of LP gas. While fuel is a cost, compared to the overall picture most people don't drive far enough for mpg's to be an overriding factor.
