- Pinikki36ExplorerOur toilets are actually porcelain so don't need to worry about scratches. I was more worried about clogging things, damaging things, or causing chemical reactions that I'm not aware of in a black water tank (which is a bit different from a sticks and bricks home toilet system). The bleach I bought is a 'green' bleach meaning it's chlorine-free so I used it, and all is good.

- rockhillmanorExplorer IIIt is not that the cleaners are a problem with the holding tank.
It's the fact that the RV toilet is made of PLASTIC. Which harsh chemicals can etch and permanently ruin the finish. Then the stains become embedded in the plastic never to come out! - ArcamperExplorerWife used bleach one time in the toilet why the black tank was about half full. Within 10 minutes a white fog came out of it the next time it was flushed. Figured bleach mixed with the ammonia in the waste and created chlorine gas. Dumped and flushed tank quick with no damage. We use 409 and a brush now and that works fine.

Ok, this qualifies as the best post of the year so far. :B - paulcardozaExplorerWhat do you use at home? :h

Bought bleach, but now I'm second guessing that decision thinking maybe I shouldn't put bleach in the black water tank. What is a safe cleaning product? - tatestExplorer IIWater. So far, on the RV, that has worked. Not like at home where a high level of standing (hard) water builds up a mineral-organic scale that needs strong acids to dissolve it.
- All58ParksExplorerI too use Windex. However, the chlorine from your cleaning product would not have any negative effect on your tank, it's no different than being at a campground with a chlorinated water supply.
- TexasShadowExplorer IIbleach or vinegar or windex, whichever is handy.
