Who parks their RV at home or do you pay for storage?

With the HOA's I can not park an RV at my home. I have to pay for storage. There are not alot of covered storage in my area. What should I pay for parking it in outdoor storage and is it worth driving a longer distance to park in a covered storage area? The dealers all say I need to protect my investment and keep it out of the elements. I would like to have a real owner opinion on this as I do not want to get ripped off buying covers or having to pay to park miles away in a covered RV storage.
  • Ours is parked across our driveway about 40 feet from the house. While we do not cover it we keep it clean. It is eight years old and looks like new.
  • I live in the country with plenty of room for storage. I however also have so many mice and squirrels that want in that I have to store it indoors at a facility about 35 miles away. I only store it over the winter and it is $108 per month.
  • I stored a previous tt at the local county fairgrounds for $10 per foot, for Oct through April. Wasn't heated or fancy, but it was covered. Now keep my fiver at home under an RV cover.
  • I have plenty of space so I store at home. The pop-up is covered but no special reason.
I did have a class C years ago that I did not cover and did not get the snow off in a timely manor. An ice dam formed in a very small crack in the sealant. By the end of the winter it was a big crack and a large bill to repair the leak damage.
  • Mine sits on the side of the house. No HOA where I'm at, but I do have CC&Rs that 'require' me to park the trailer behind the fence in the 'back' yard.

I do cover my trailer with a large tarp when not used for long periods of time. I was just too cheap to go and spend a few hundred on a fitted cover. Tarp and some 1/4" rope and bungees is a whole lot cheaper!

I'm nearing 3yrs that I've owned the trailer, and it has spent about 75% of the time uncovered. I do a lot of traveling for work, and take the trailer to stay in when I can Everything still looks fine other than a bit of fading on the plastic trim piece on the entry door.
  • I feel your pain. We simply don't have a long enough driveway or street space to park at home.

Our solution was to park our TT in a seasonal site for $1,900 for the 6 camping months and $310 total in a covered building for the 6 non-camping months.

During the camping season, we're free to travel with it from our seasonal site, although the campground is so enjoyable and convenient, that we stay put for the whole 6 months.

I disagree with the investment part. Anything you have big money into, is an investment, to my way of thinking.

And for some people, who fulltime, it's their home, so....

It all depends on how much you want to protect your investment. I have mine in a covered storage and I pay about $120.00 a month. It will be more expensive the closer you get to an urban center.

How far is too far? How much is too much? Do you want to protect your RV from the elements?

If you want your trailer to go to hell, leave it uncovered and exposed to the wind, rain, sun, etc.

I know that people on here will say "Hey I've left mine uncovered for 20 years and it looks brand new" To that I reply: OK, whatever!
