15amp A/C-heater fuse keeps blowing

so i had an issue where all the console controls for the A/C-heater-defroster-vent air stop working all of a sudden. i thought it was the AC Heater blend door actuator. i went under the steering wheel and found that the small ATM 15amp fuse had blown. i replaced it and the vent, defroster, worked. then i turned the knob to AC and the fuse blew.
i have a class C on a 2000 Ford E-450 chassis.
what could possibly be causing the fuse to blow out every time i turn the dial to AC? i mean the heater and vent and defroster work fine its only when i turn to AC that the fuse blows out and then nothing works.

please help

  • Do not put a larger size fuse in the fuse holder without checking the owners manual to find out what size fuse it takes. This is how electrical fires start!

I can think of 3 things
1 Short circuit. the wire to the AC Compressor may have rubbed against something and worn through the insulation... Solution is a good hard look at all exposed parts of that wire (LIke near the compressor)

    2: Short. Compressor clutch magnet

3: Usually A/C takes a 20 or 25 amp fuse.. Someone may have popped a 15 in there (if you are not the original owner of the car) to use as an emergency replacement.

Check the OWNER'S MANUAL or the fuse block you may find the proper size of the fuse in one or the other. DO NOT replace with a bigger fuse till you CONFIRM that the fuse in there is too small.
  • Since the A/C compressor runs in defrost, that would rule out the compressor.
I would guess you have a bad HVAC control panel.
