7-way Wiring Problem

Don't feel bad, I once had to replace this cable and tried to do it myself, but the colors on the new cable didn't match up with the colors on the trailer. So the brown wire from the trailer may have been for the license plate light, but the brown trailer on the plug was for your turn signal or something. I paid a guy on the side from Camping World to come out and help me figure it out and he spent over an hour with trial and error figuring out which went to which. It was a nightmare...especially since it was 100 degrees out.

OK, after looking at the 7-way diagrams at http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx it seems your trailer is using the "RV standard" but the new cord is using the "Traditional" standard. This explains the brown-green and green-brown swap. When you originally wired like colors, that's why your right turn signal flashed the markers.

Anyway, I still think your marker lights may be the "unknown" green/white wire which makes sense considering the RV standard is green for marker and tail. Connect that with the other trailer green (brown on truck) and it should work.

The bundles of wires under the wire nuts (twist locks), are probably ground and battery positive. If your truck has a charging circuit you can probably connect truck side black to the red bundle. Before you do that, confirm there is +12V on the red bundle with the trailer disconnected from the truck. Did the old cable have red and white wires connecting to those wire nuts?

The original solo yellow wire was from the truck 'aux' or reverse lights and was capped off since the trailer didn't use it.

Yes, they were the side and front marker lights that didn't come on.

I was able to confirm (Used a wire from the positive on the batter and touched the wires. I know I am still missing something. I changed from the original message based on what they told me at CequentGroup. Apparently they make the Bargman wire. They neglected to tell me that this particular model has a different wiring scheme. I have changed it so many times now I am confusing myself more.
Who knew that some 7-wire are different from the same manufacturer? They admitted the messed up.

I see now that your original picture shows what was there. Since there were 3 wires in the green connector, one must be the front markers, separate from the rear ones. Do you still have both of those trailer-side wires in the same connector, regardless of the color coming from the truck? It seems from your wiring description that the truck side is using brown for the tail/marker circuit.

Since you are able to connect power from the battery to each trailer wire, just figure them all out one by one. Then, pick one (like the front markers) and then connect it one by one to each wire on the 7-way. As you do, try the various truck functions (left/right/tail) to confirm. It seems like you're close if you have those 3 working for most of the trailer, though.

The reason for 3 blue wires is probably one from the truck, one to the brakes and one from the breakaway switch.

From the original chord the three dark blue/blue stripe/light blue were in a scotch lock. Same as the three different greens. Two reds were together. One single yellow and two browns.

OK, I've read and re-read everything in the thread and still cannot follow what you are saying here. You originally had the marker/tail lights flashing when you turned on the right turn signal, correct? That's consistent with the green-brown connections you list.

Did both front and back marker lights flash when you did that? They are usually all connected to a single wire. Are you sure what you are seeing is marker (as in along the sides and not just the rear-facing tail/stop lights)?

What did you change between the original problem you had and now? With the color connections you listed it sure seems like you've got some swapped. Most trailers use yellow/green/brown as left/right/tail like the cord manufacturer said they use. Did you confirm each wire on the trailer with a known power source like a battery to see what lights up?

I'm concerned when you say the trailer has blue/white and green/white wires, one of which you just "connected" or the brakes didn't work. Where did you unhook them from the original cord?

The new chord I bought was faulty. I spliced the old chord (temporally) connected it and everything worked. I called the manufacturer and there sending me a new one.
I do have one more question though. There are two clusters of separate wires. One has white wires 4-5 maybe and red wires with maybe the same amount. I looked at it last night and I am not near the trailer now. Does the wire for charging the batteries go into one of these clusters?
