- paulsangExplorerI just retired this year, and I am 45, I have no DESIRE do drive more than 250-300 miles a day. We are really taking the time to explore. But, if I DO need to be somewhere at a certain date, I plan accordingly. Like now. We are at a repair Shop. I might have to do a day or 2 of marathon driving to be where I have to be next week.
Basically, we just roll with the punches, and enjoy every day as it comes. - paulsangExplorer

So why are you even posting on it? I don't understand people like you that Bytch and moan about others posting useless thread, yet find the time to comment. Just move on, and save us all the aggravation. And what, exactly, did slinging an insult at the OP accomplish? - homelesshoboExplorerSeriously, isn't this one of those threads being discussed in another thread about useless threads? - Jim_ShoeExplorerI plan my trips for about 300 miles/day. By leaving about 8 AM, driving about 60 MPH, and with increasingly frequent rest stops for potty breaks, that gets me to my next FHU CG by about 3PM, avoiding the need for a reservation except for my final destination. I'm retired, so time doesn't matter a lot. If I'm ahead of schedule, I'll stay another night somewhere along the way. If behind, I'll go a little farther for a couple of days. Works for me.

I'm 70 now, so I know that 70 years old is time to cut back on my miles driven per day.
Please pass it along.
If I was that old, I would be glad that I was even allowed to drive. - Ski_Pro_3ExplorerGeocritter PM'd me, to which I replied to this post of his in a reply PM.
Good luck Steve. - GeocritterExplorer

The sad part is at 6’5” and 220 lbs with a Mensa level IQ, I could physically and mentally kick the butts of most of these imbeciles. It really sucks to be treated like that when you love the work you do and you’re good at it.

It amazes me when folks tout their ultra intelligence then admit they have to work FOR somebody. Ha! With an IQ like that, one would think you could do just fine without the 'imbeciles' controlling your quality of life. But since they obviously do, by your own account, they must be even smarter than you and your Mensa IQ.
Actually skipro3, I had my own successful environmental/geological consulting business for over 15 years while I lived in Chicago. I only gave up the business when my wife became sick with inflammatory breast cancer and the Chicago area hospital recommended MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston after they ran out of treatment options. I promptly closed the business and took a job with Halliburton in Houston only to get laid off 2 years later when the economy tanked in 2008 (Halliburton's notorious for quick layoffs every time the economy hiccups). By that time I was 61 and apparently unemployable. Try to imagine Mr. skipro3, your wife dying of cancer while at the same time your COBRA insurance benefits are rapidly expiring, and you can't even get a hay nay or gotohell when you apply for a job doing work that you excel at. Now perhaps you know why I'm more than a little irked over corporate America's unspoken age discrimination policies. FWIW I found work consulting and came close to selling an oil prospect I'd put together, all while I was looking for work AND INSURANCE BENEFITS. I'm still consulting only my wife passed away two years ago and I don't need corporate America's health insurance benefits anymore.
Steve - wa8yxmExplorer IIIWhen I read the topic line I was considering a "Strong Response" but I see from the post you mean that YOU should set a limit.. On this I agree with one change.
ALL drivers should such a limit.. Just the millage varies with age and a few other things. - BigRabbitManExplorerHmmm, when I was 70 I drove from Reno to Cheyenne, WY in one day. Don't know or care what the mileage was. At 72 it was from CA to eastern Utah on one day. No big deal!
Now that I am 73 and moving to Oregon from California, I drive 459 miles one way twice a week with out a problem. I do need one stop along the way as the fuel tank won't quite make the trip on one filling. This is in my Pickup and sometimes pulling a trailer and sometimes just the pickup.
In about a month, the trip will be about 120 miles further each way for various reasons.
Drive on! - road2002runnerExplorerI am 79 and I like to . . . wait, what was he question ?
