98 Legacy Outback and Blue Ox Base Plate Question

A friend is looking to tow a 98 Subaru Legacy Outback. In 98 the "Outback" brand was added to both the Legacy and the Impreza. Looking at the Blue Ox base plate guide it list the tab height for the Legacy as 15" or so. It does not say if that is for the regular Legacy or the Outback.
The Legacy Outback is not listed and the Outback Sport that is listed is the already mentioned Impreza based car. Understandably, because of the age of the car the Blue Ox help folks did not have an answer for me when I called, they were very nice and burned up the key board but there was no joy on the other end of the phone.

So I am posting here on the off chance someone has already gone this route. I believe the Legacy Outback has suspension mods that make it 2 to 3 inches higher than the Legacy.
1. Does anyone reading this know which car the Blue Ox base plate guide refers to, the Legacy/wagon-sadan or the Legacy Outback.
2. Has anyone reading this added Blue Ox base plates to there 98-99 Legacy Outback (or sadan) and can you tell me the tab height?

The car is paid for and running well for the "why" question.
Thanks in advance
John

  • I don't know the answer to your question, but the height does not come into the equation. It is whether or not the base plate attaches to the car. Differences in height may require a receiver to compensate for the difference in height between the toad and the RV. I use a drop receiver to compensate for the 4" difference in height.
