A/C Condensation

I've searched and can't find this topic but we need information and solution. During hot, humid weather A/C condensation builds on ductwork and drips on ceiling then runs to lowest point. You can hear the water dripping on the ceiling throughout the fifth wheel. This has resulted in rotting wood on floors and sidewalls. Is the condensation normal? If not, what needs to be done? Is this ductwork supposed to be wrapped with anything to prevent the condensation build-up? I've read all about reducing moisture in camper, opening vent for cooking, de-humidifier, etc.; however, this just happens any time AC is on. Obviously this is an intolerable situation and can't continue but we don't know the steps to correct situation. Thanks for any help you might give.

Very first thing to do is CLEAN THE AIR CONDITIONER FILTERS... You should be doing this at least once a month anyway.. If not more often..

In the past several times Ive had the A/C dump water usually on the bed.. Yesterday when I turned off power to the coach I noticed the A/C dumped quite a bit of water on the roof... CLUE.. Cleaned the filters.

Also run fan on HIGH, not auto. this may help.
  • If you are dripping water from the duct vents, the problem is the airr off the unit is too cold and you are below the dew point of the air in the room. The vent gets too cold and drips.

This can be caused by low air flow, or trying to run the room too cold for the application. Low air flow can be due to a dirt filter or a dirty coil or the fan on low speed.

  • Under the evaporator coil there is a drip pan ... make sure the drain holes aren't plugged. Cleaning both the condenser and evaporator coils and running the AC on high rather than low may also help. Cleaning the evaporator coil is overlooked by many because it's under a metallic shroud which requires removal of a number of screws - s/b a number of threads outlining how to clean an evaporator coil (use the forum search feature).
  • Not normal... We do get condensation around the metal ceiling vents from time to time but not enough to drip.

Not sure what you would need to do to fix the problem. There are drain holes that can get plugged up on the frame work for the A/C unit. If they are plugged water could be running into the ducts. You need to be on the roof and remove the shroud to look for the drain holes. Here's a DIY for it
