To a point, yes. To be safe you don't want to exceed the weight rating of any part of your truck, but just because your vehicle came with a set of wimpy tires doesn't mean you can't upgrade the tires (and wheels). What you can't do is upgrade the tires and carry more weight than the axle can handle. Alternatively, just because your axle can handle a lot more than the door sticker shows, doesn't mean you can load the vehicle up to that weight and ignore the tire ratings.
