Florida stands to suffer enormous damage from Hurricane Irma. Many RV parks will no doubt lose income and incur substantial damage. Be an American and once the storm has passed, make Florida a destination for your next trip as soon as the state and parks can accommodate guests again. In addition to helping your fellow Americans get back on their feet, you will be witness to the damage a huge hurricane can do. It will be vacation you will remember for the rest of your life. Don't let the thought that the state's beauty will be tarnished by the storm stop you from going. I remember when we lived in central Florida and we were spared Andrew's damage, we travelled to Key West several months later and seeing the devastation in Homestead firsthand is something I will never forget and it gave me real insight into how powerless we are in the face of something like that. As RVers, we can really contribute to the recovery.

Don't forget Texas either. Rockport and Port Aransas suffered a lot of damage to their RV parks also.

I think Fl. RV parks will be over flowing with work-campers helping out with area strom damage repairs.

Problem with Florida is, there are really only 2 ways in and out so if there is major infrastructure damage to the highways, probably would not be a good idea to venture down there for the foreseeable future.

I'm looking forward to see how each deal with the mess. Or atleast how the news covers it. I think Texas will do better, more "rugged individualism" and less waiting for gov't hand outs. We'll see. After Katrina visiting and helping my daughter in New Orleans gov't was more of a pain then help at times. My wives "homecare" nurse took off Wed. for Texas. I really respect her. She works (volunteers") all around the world. Very interesting stories.

Strange as it may seem RV parks are one of the places I expect to recover fastest.. You see. A RV pad is kind of hard to blow away.. OH you get trees down and damage to the buildings but most of the property is RV pads and those are hard to kill.. SO it is mostly a matter of waiting for customers to return once power is restored.THat said... I do feel sorry for MOST of the folks who will suffer damage,, Couple of exceptions but I'll not name them. One of them claims it's all a hoax.. Well.. Trust me ... NOT A HOAX.

I've seen a lot of devastation in my time. I don't have the money nor the time to do what I really want to do. Therefore, what I'll end up doing is helping a few places little bit in the Port Aransas area.
Your thoughts are appreciated. How do you fix so many broken hearts, so many broken spirits. I'm a bit depressed.

This hurricane could have waited another year. I will be full time by then. It is what it is.

I feel sorry for the effects it will have on peoples lives and businesses, but my vacation does not include going somewhere to see beaches, houses and local business that are closed or wiped out. Insurance should pick the folks back on their feet.

If I want to camp in complete devastation I can just go to Detroit

I agree, stay away. Not completely, but don't feel like you have to be the first person in line to get back to FL to spend your money and help recovery. Natural disasters in the USA bring about economic booms to the region that's effected. There'll be so much money flowing into FL for structure repair, infrastructure repair, etc. Contractors will be lined up, ready to take those insurance checks. Government spending will increase dramatically on all levels. Sure, small local RV parks may suffer in the short term, but we're coming into a slow season anyway, being that time between the end of summer and before the snowbirds start arriving.

Irma net effect = billions of dollars changing hands

Sorry I don't think taking ones family to VIEW other peoples devastation of their lives is a "vacation to remember".:R

Having been in a disaster. The LAST thing residents want are lookie loo's that come out to "see the damage".

When a tornado touched down and destroyed homes where I lived I could not believe the next day the line of cars packed with their kids driving up and down our streets literally causing a back up, blocking our material and repair trucks, just to "see the damage".

Stay away and leave them alone and let them rebuild their houses, towns and their lives.
