? Aside from wear/erosion, is the a time you should get a new anode regardless of what it looks like? Looking at some of the water heater & anode notes got me to wondering... Going into our 5er's ...

No need to replace until 75% of sacrificial material has been dissolved.
Depending on water source that could take couple of months or many years.
Routine drain/flush of WH tank and clean up of anode is good maintenance.
