Any ideas for safe transport of spare gas for the gen?

Do you folks carry a generator and extra gas in cans? Where do you store the full gas can(s)during travel? I was originally planning to place them inside a Stanley Tool Box located in the bed of m...

I do the same thing with a 5th wheel the R/V provides shade. But it the temps are on the high 90s shade will not make a difference
