Any ideas for safe transport of spare gas for the gen?

Do you folks carry a generator and extra gas in cans? Where do you store the full gas can(s)during travel? I was originally planning to place them inside a Stanley Tool Box located in the bed of m...

Gasoline is not flammable but the vapor sure is and that is what you don't want building up in a closed space. Lots of vents from marine supply houses that will allow vapors out without letting water inside.
