Some of the best information above that's ever been posted on Pub 52 on these boards.
Be aware that any information you receive from the FTB will have no bearing on the ultimate determination of sales tax due. It's up to you to comply with their determination of taxes at the time you file the paterwork - ie one year later or more.
Phone calls etc can be helpful but you must comply with the FTB interpretation of the rules when you apply. On several phone calls I got information that was not correct but red flags went up since I had studied Pub 52.
In 04 (3 month period) I as a CA resident submitted 100 pages of detailed log and receipts with multiple entries per page. This included GG, fuel and other expenses to show active usage outside CA for 3 months during the first 6 months and not storage which didn't qualify.
I purchased in CA, took delivery in NV (hired a driver) including NV notarized documents, then registered the rig in CA, camped at a NV CG for 3 days, returned to CA for 2 weeks to prepare the rig and left CA for 3 months. The process might be different in the current Pub 52 in addition to the one year requirement.
