Are we making progress on the loud generator issue.
Yes, those thin ones with large areas are perfectly silent. They are the best neighbours to have. - Ron3rdExplorer IIILots of junk videos on youtube but lots of very good ones too. The wife needed the 4-button switch panel cluster on the driver's side door replaced as one of the switches went bad. Dealer wanted $400 to replace. You can buy the part (Genuine OEM GM) for about $50.00. Video on youtube will show you how to replace it in about 5 minutes if you're drinking beer and very slow.
There's a hidden screw, cluster pops out, unplug the wiring, plug the new one in, pop it back into the door, replace the screw and you're done. Took me longer to type this than replace the part! - D_E_BishopExplorer

Yesterday my son was shooting some video of him making coffee. "Why?" I asked. :h His answer - people will watch anything, get enough views on YouTube and he gets paid for it! I guess he's right as only occasionally have I found anything even remotely useful on YouTube, mostly it's garbage like this. :R
YouTube has saved me many dollars by watching "How To Videos". I fixed the coupler between the motor and the transmission of my clothes washer myself after looking up the noise and watching a repair video on YouTube about it. I was getting ready to junk the washer out only yo find that it was a 30 dollar part and a 20 minute fix. I also fixed the broken agitator in my clothes washer the same way.
It is a great resource for people that like to fix their own stuff. Much cheaper then paying a repair man or buying a new every time something simple breaks.
Like everything else computerize these days you just have to learn how to use the search bar and find what you want and then skip the rest.
"X2", Toughtop has great videos, you tube had some I liked better. Fixed my DW's 6CD changer in her Explorer in 30 minutes, saved $600(at the time) and even then it was hard to find someone to fix it, Dealer wanted to replace it.
You just have to know what you want to find. - wa8yxmExplorer IIIWe have people in this country who are in love with fossil fuels. Or perhaps more likely in the pocket of a few of the folks who get rich off fossil fuels. They preach "OIL GOOD, SOLAR BAD" simply because SOLAR does not make them PROFIT and Almigty God's a Dollar and I want them all you see.
Sadly.. There is no C&&P Filter on the internet. it's up to you and me to filter the stuff.. I have a bit of an advantage there growing up on a dairy farm I shoveled the genuine stuff.... Smells the same. - pnicholsExplorer IIThat video - as poor or as tolerable as it may be - is kindof talking around a point that I have mentioned a few times in these forums.
Some of us desire an RV to be "ready for anything at any time" and as such, must be fully self-contained under all reasonable conditions. What this means to me is that the ultimate RV has both generator and solar capabilities. If one can't afford both in the beginning then go with a generator first, and then add solar later when and if the budget eventually permits.
Our RV has a strange mix that does not make it the "ultimate", but does make it ready for a wide variety of conditions. We have a large (and fairly quiet and vibration-free) built-in generator fueled from the main 55 gallon tank and also carry along a small super-quiet 650 watt portable generator along with separate fuel for it. Since our rig is a motorhome as opposed to a towable - we also have cab heating, cab cooling, and alternator electrical power to help keep the coach area livable in "emergencies" - via idling of the chassis engine. - mike-sExplorerA genny is cheaper short term, especially for higher powers (but is getting more expensive). Solar is cheaper long term (and is getting cheaper).
Choose wisely. - Boon_DockerExplorer IIIYes, YouTube does has some great stuff, but also has a fair bit of garbage. I have found a few videos that helped me a lot.

One word about the video- STUPIDITY
They are out there and they cover everything from things like that video to hating people in FW and MH etc. I never knew it when we started traveling but there are more and more people out there that are basically the "Mobile homeless" and many of them have an attitude against anyone who has anything so lock your generator up. I just stumbled on that video and laughed because of how many of us on this site try to guide people into quieter generators.
They refer to those above themselves as glam mads. glam nomads. Maybe they cant comprehend that those below them probably look at them the same way. Duuhhh
X2, and if anyone bothers to listen to this lady's logic for the full video, you will understand. She's not talking about the majority of us on this forum. She's talking about the NOMADIC lifestyle. In California, we used to call them "desert rats", ie, the go way out in the Mojave desert to live, don't want to see any people, etc.
Her entire argument is why her loud, cheap generator is better than solar. And for her type of lifestyle, in the middle of nowhere, I agree. (At first I thought she was a cook in a meth lab)
Sure, her argument makes sense how her 5500 watt construction generator that she bought used for $200 is better than the 100 watts of solar she got "duped" into buying for $300.
Like she said, she makes it known that she's running her loud 5500 watt monster, SHE WAS THERE FIRST, and if you don't like it, go down the road.
If you enjoy that type of camping, it makes perfect sense.
Not my cup of tea.
