The first requirement is to have it clean before it is rolled up. I have had good luck with using Mold Armor. I know of nothing that will eliminate the need to scrub it to get it clean.
I spray it on and let it set. I don't roll the awning up. After 5 - 10 minutes, all mold/mildew is gone without the need to scrub.
