awning mold

Any secret in keeping mold from forming on the under side of the awning when it's rolled up and not going to be used for sometime? I think on this forum I read that you could spray bleach water on the underside and then roll it up. I'm thinking this would not be good for the material over several months. I just cleaned mine today knowing it will only get more mold by spring. If no secrets to avoid mold, what and how do you clean yours?
  • Best thing. Make sure it is clean before you roll it up for the winter. The mold is actually on the dust / dirt on the awning. And unless you have it under a cover. It's gonna get wet and mold.

I clean mine by in rolling it, spraying Clorox II, or Awsome on it, and then roll it back up, let it sit 20 min or so, unroll it and wash it.

BTW. You CAN if it is a manual awning unhook the supports from the side of the RV, let them slide under it, and the awning will then be against the side of the RV. You can clean it much better like that. but do be sure to rinse the Clorox, or awesome off before you let it touch the RV. It will take the wax off.
  • TilEx for cleaning. This actually has some longer term preventve help.
  • The bleach in the rolled up awning is only for cleaning. If you left it in for days or weeks you'd have a mess. I don't know of anything to keep it from getting mildew at all.
