Battery on or off ??

When plugged into 50 amp shore power during storage should I flip the the battery disconnect switch to the off position or leave it on? Or does it matter? Thanks

The answer depends on your converter.. If you have a good quality 3-stage + converter such as a Progressive Dynamics charge wizard unit or an Iota with IQ-4, Leave it connected.. That is how I did it when this rig was new and the batteries lasted 4 years that way and five more full timing it. (9 total) Before we went full time I only added distilled water on Mother's day.

IF, on the other hand you have a low end single stage.. Well, Some of those tend to overcharge, some undercharge, none do it right.

    I would hope a 50 amp rig has a good 3-stage.

I'm from the old school when converters were not so sophisticated as chargers. I turn mine on Saturday morning and off Sunday evening unless I'm using it that weekend. I have boiled a battery or two in years passed and have trained myself to do as stated above. I know I don't NEED to but I still do.
  • If you have a three or four stage converter, leave it connected so it will maintain the batteries.

If you are plugged in why not keep the battery charged?

Exactly, that is one of the reasons I keep it plugged in. All Batteries are charged and ready to go when I am. I do have a BIRD that keeps all of them charged, Chassis and Coach.

  • What I do is leave the battery disconnect switch (in battery compartment) in the on position. However, I typically turn on most of the lights in the motor home and then when leaving, i will turn the salesman's switch off. This allows me to reduce the 12vdc amperage draw on the batteries when I'm not in it, and also I can turn on all the lights with one switch.
