According to the AAA website roadside assistance is limited to 4 free assistance calls per member per year.
I don't know if aaa is the gold standard, but I've had them for about 30 years now. Some years I never use them for roadside assistance, sometimes they get used multiple times. I will say that I've never been disappointed with their service. They usually quote up to 90 minutes for assistance but it's usually under 30 minutes.
We also take advantage of any discounts that are offered to aaa members (restaurants, attractions, etc) which helps make up for the cost. I think cost may vary by area, here it is $198 for two people with AAA Plus with NO RV coverage.
We've also used the AAA travel services for traveling. We've saved more than the price of membership on each trip we've booked through them.
