We are getting closer to purchasing our first RV. One in the rear bedroom area and the other in the living area up front. This is where the standard fan in the commode area comes into question. If one were to leave the bathroom door partially open while not in use, is there a need for a vent fan in the commode area at all? I have not discussed the possibility of deleting the bathroom vent fan with Nexus RV, but it seems to be an easy change to accommodate at the time of construction. I have read on this forum that one does not want the vent fan in the commode area to be running while flushing the toilet. This would make sense since the airflow would tend to pull odor from the black tank. I would think the additional vent fan in the bedroom area would take care of moisture concerns from the shower area.I do not know if there is a concern of the original vent closure on top of the RV to crack or leak over a period of time, but if it is not there at all, no worries at all. Am I over thinking this or should I just add the two new vent fans and leave the original as is?Thanks in advance for your advice.

IMO, the bathroom is the primary location for a good vent fan. Not just for bathroom odors but also to vent shower moisture.Bringing the odors and moisture out into your living area is not a good idea.I understand the fan drawing odors from the black tank when you flush, but flushing is fast - the valve is only open for a couple seconds. I get in the habit of turning the fan off when I flush.But when I shower I like to have the fan on to get rid of the moisture as quickly as possible. It is already hard enough to keep the humidity down in an RV.I would put the good fan in the bathroom first and if you want a second, put it at the opposite end or in the living area.

I'd leave the little whir and buzz in the bathroom and put the second maxxaire in the living area. and no you don't want a maxxaire (good) fan running in the bath room when you flush the toilet as the black tank will vent thru the bathroom. do it once and you'll never forget to not do it the next time.bumpy

We run our MaxxAire every time we shower to remove moisture. Moisture is not our friend! We are having another one installed when we winterize for the cabin, as cooking produces a lot of moisture in the air as well. You won't regret having one in the bathroom.

I think of the bathroom fan as the main fan in the MH for two reasons. The first is to suck out the moisture from the showers as already mentioned. The second reason is to help cool off the bedroom. If you shut the door between the bathroom and the rest of the MH, turn on the fan and open the bedroom windows, the fan will pull fresh cool air in through the bedroom windows to cool the bedroom off.Don't worry about the black tank fumes. The flush only lasts 1 - 2 seconds. If you do get fumes, shut off the fan.If and when you go to sell the MH, not having a second fan may deter some buyers if they think about the humidity issues.Bill

i put the quiet fantastic vents in the living areas and bedrooms... then retro'd a vortex fan in the bathroom.

I like the noise in the bathroom. One it gives a little anonymity to the person using the head... and when you shower and leave it on.. its a reminder to check and shut it off.

Turn on the exhaust fan and open windows to let cooler air in. This is assuming the air outside is COOLER.

I installed an exhaust fan only in our bathroom. I have only used the fan in the bathroom in my previous TT to vent out moisture when showering. Can it be used to pull hot air out of the camper when it has been sitting for a week not hooked up and you pull into a CG on Fridsy. If so, what is best way to do this. Once I crank on the AC I have always closed all the vents so the cold AC is not going bye bye through the roof vent. Tks

A bathroom fan is a requirement not an option if you ask me, we added two vent fans just after taking delivery on our rig. I always have at least one of them going at all times as they can be operated with the vent lids closed. We always run the bedroom unit while sleeping as it provides the perfect white noise capable of masking most any campground noise. Enjoy your new rig!!!

I like the way ours was set up by Winnebago. We have a vent fan exhausting air out of the MH in the bathroom, for odors and moisture, and one in the living room/kitchen. The living room/kitchen fan is great for getting rid of cooking steam, and when set on low with the bedroom vent open, quietly pulls cool night air into the bedroom without putting a loud whirr over the bed.

If I had one in the bedroom, I would never have turned it on in the 6 years I have owned this RV.

Thank you for the replies. As usual, it helps me get a better visualization of what I really want and need. Looking at the bathroom configuration again, it definitely makes sense to have a good fan in the bathroom area. I will replace the "Whirl and Buzz " fan with the MaxxAire Deluxe. When taking a shower, the accordion door will be extended to separate the bedroom from the shower. The bathroom door would be opened all the way to separate, somewhat, the rest of the coach from the bathroom area. The fan has 10 different speeds settings, so it will do a good job of removing moisture, etc.

No fan added for the bedroom area.

I will add the MaxxAire Deluxe to the front living area as well. Ventilation and air circulation is a good thing.

I also have a 29' coach and agree that the first place you want the fan is in the bathroom. With your floor plan, my next one would be in the living area. The third priority would be the bedroom. I am a big fan of exhaust fans! By moving some hot air out of our tube houses, it greatly reduces the amount of AC time needed.
