- Bob_VaughnExplorerI just put 2 pouches in the tank full of water and let it set for 2 days periodically running the tank flush for a few minutes to keep the water stirred up and the end result was the culprit probe still showed on when the tank was empty and allowed to dry over night.....

If this is indeed the problem (something having on the probe), the remedy to correct it is easily done. Prior to traveling, empty the tank and flush it out a couple of time with plenty of water until it's clear. Then put about 5 to 10 gallons of water back into the tank and add a cup of liquid laundry detergent plus about a 1/2 cup of liquid Calgon water softener. While traveling to you next destination, the sloshing mixture should clean off the probes (and the rest of the tank) of any material stuck to them. Depending upon how much and how long the material has been stuck, this procedure may take more than one application.
We tend to stay at one place for a long period of time so the solids and TP have more of an opportunity to cause problems even tho I flush out my tank often with lots of water. However, during travel, this procedure will keep the tank clean and probes in good working order. I never use any chemicals....just soap, water softener and plain old water.
Works for me.

I drain the tank, give it a 2 minute flush to ensure all the solids are gone and move along so the next guy can dump. It's a holding tank for poo, how clean does it need to be? It's going to get dirty again next use. - Bob_VaughnExplorer

I wonder if running HOT water thru the tank flush would work better and clean the probes better. I can pull my 5th wheel next to my garage and run my hose to the hot water faucet in my deep sink. - BB_TXNomadUntil it runs (mostly) clear is my answer. After the tank is fully drained, I close the valve and start the flush. After about 2-3 minutes I open the valve and let the tank drain again. Then I close the valve again and repeat. Each time a few more solids come out. Typically after about 3 times it runs clear enough for me and I turn off the flush. I do have a clear plastic extension on the sewer connection.
Just don't go off and leave it running unattended with the valve closed. - Dick_BExplorerIn one of the informative videos the tech showed how the tank should be flushed, then the valve closed to refill the tank, then flushed again and repeated until the water is reasonably clear. We have a clear plastic fitting between the RV piping and the hose to make it easier to tell the status of the water. I've repeated this 3 or 4 times which is better than just letting the water run.

- Cummins12V98Explorer IIII open the valve wait until the flow is low close valve turn on tank flush. Set phone timer for 6-8 minutes place phone in your pocket!!!
Pull valve let drain with flush still on wait til draining slow close and repeat. Close valve after water is running slow. Wait one minute then turn off flush. Plenty of water to start with is essential! - OasisbobExplorerUsing the internal sprinkler I fill once and flush as it drains. Only do this every few trips. No chemicals. No problems.
- mgirardoExplorerUntil the water runs clear is the best answer. I generally fill the tank with the Black Tank Flush and then drain it. The power of the vacuum created as the water rushes out of the tank pulls more solids out than just letting the black tank flush run out the hose. I usually fill the tank completely twice after the initial drain.
