Bringing a generator with to a FHU campground?

I was thinking about this. I have a small 2200W generator that will do everything I need but run the A/C. I know some campgrounds lose power and was wondering if anyone carries it along as back up just in case? my brother was at a campground and the power was out for most of the day. a generator would be nice to keep you going.

Anyone?

  • We carry ours not only for the rare camp outage but primarily for lunch/rest stops on the road.
It lets us power the microwave if wanted and to eat lunch or nap with the AC on.
  • Carry one in back of truck 24/7 365....use it mostly to run chain saws for firewood.....but will work on trailer if need it.....
  • If you have it and it's not a burden to find space for it, sure.

Of course, the air/con is the main reason we keep ours with us. The power usually fails when it's 90F and everyone has their air/con running full blast.
  • When I had a TT one of the reasons I added a rear platform was to have genset at all times. I did not want to have to plan to use genset. Genset was always there for those unexpected times I needed it.
I now have a built in on my fiver.
  • As it has been said about SO many things, "It is better to have it and not need it than it is to need it and not have it!"
That applies to generators as well as can openers!
    ...and other things.
  • Since we have a Class C, we have an on board generator. In the almost 6 years we've owned it, we've only needed it once in a campground because they lost power. Power was out for about 12 hours. We used the generator just to recharge the house battery that ran down over night.

If you have room for it, bring it. You may never need it, but the one time you do, you will wish you had.

  • We almost always stay at state parks and have electrical hookups, but I still carry a 3500,4000 watt ginny in case of power outages because my wife has trouble breathing when it is hot and humid. 4 or 5 times electricity was knocked out, once for most of the day and the ginny saved the day for us, I was able to run 1 a/c for DW instead of packing up and leaving or running the truck all day. :)
