Buyer beware

I went to Mike Thompson's RV in Colton, Ca. to buy a new Travel Trailer. I had spoken with a person that I was told was a manager two weeks ago, and explained my complete sitution, money, trade-in, downpayment, credit score, everything. We had to wait until today to go back, but I have talked to this person over the phone during the last two weeks. She told me to bring my trailer and she would get me a "fantastic" deal. My wife and I completely unloaded our trailer and took it down. I was shuffled off to another sales person, by the "manager" I spoke with eariler. Our information was taken, and then we were told, by the sales person because the finance manager couldn't stop eating his lunch to talk to us, that our credit score would need to be 100 pts higher (to the exccelent range 750+) and we would need to pay off our current TT because he couldn't role it into the loan. Also a 50% down payment would be good. I think it was 50% because we were never told what the price of the TT would be. The MSPR that was listed is the highest in the Nation, I looked, and they didn't seem to want to give any discount, even with the nationial average of 30% being a norm. I feel the treatment I receeived was very rude and uncalled for. I warn anyone going there to be prepared for a rude awakening.
  • Unfortunately, for all intents and purposes, the deal died when they actually pulled your credit report and came to the conclusion you couldn't finance the new rig. There is no action you can take to increase your credit score 100 points. The dealer knows you aren't going to be able to put down 50% and pay any negative equity on your current loan. Talking to the finance manager, negotiating on the MSRP and all the other things they didn't do won't change the situation. The salesperson did what they are taught and expected to do, get a potential customer into the dealership. Unfortunately, a deal couldn't be made, but it not really the fault of the dealer.

Mike Thompson's RV has been in business since 1972 all over So. CA.

They have pages and pages of complaints yet folks keep going back.

As long as you keep fooling' enough you can put big $$$ in your pocket.

That tells me that they are a high volume dealer, and mistakes will be made.

I don't condone their actions in this case, but to stay in business that long they must be doing something right for someone.

    Just sayin....
  • Kinda like Robert Crist in Phoenix. We were in there about August a couple of years ago and looking at a new unit of the model year ahead. They did not even have the specs on it. But there would be "lots of changes" - but did not know what they were. But they somehow could come up with a price.

My wife "left the building" but I kept asking questions. Then comes the "Sales Manager" to personally speak to me. I get the same crap.

Then he comes up with a line I will never forget. "That is my best price - but make me an offer!" Now I left the building.

I bought the unit in another city for a better price.

And the Sales Manager guy kept calling me knowing I have bought elsewhere - he just wanted to badmouth me for not buying from them.

  • A single rv'er whose time and effort are wasted and not considered worthy of courtesy...

Now can tell the world about it. Bet the 'manager' wishes he/she would have been helpful and respectful now.

Hope you quickly get a deal TWICE AS GOOD elsewhere!
  • I'm from Indiana, never been to California, but I do know that there have been previous negative posts about Mike Thompson RV. I hope you took your business elsewhere!

Sorry to read of your troubles. I hope you politely told them to put the deal on the back burner, with the heat off, permanently.

How far did you have to tow your existing trailer to be treated in this manner?
