When you mentioned "licensed driver", I misunderstood and thought you were talking about the requirement to get this license. Not the person who is riding along.

In your above statement you reworded it so that now I understand (I'm a little slow sometimes) what you were asking ...therefore, you're right... there is NO written requirement that a licensed person that accompanies me to the DMV is to present himself to the DMV.

IMO - IMO only!
Once you pass a written test you would have a permit - which would require a driver with the same license to be with you when you're practicing driving.

But - No way for the DMV to know if the licensed driver dropped off the MH for you - was in a hurry and went on his way.

Often DMV offices and examiners have their own interpretation
of what (or how much) is required.

Easy way to find out - *ASK* the DMV..:@

BTW - years ago, before CA non-commercial DLs and FF DL's, I was authorized to certify FD drivers for Class B DL. No *driving* test by the DMV required. Another guy in the city yard could certify Class A.
(Neither of us cut anybody any slack - but no way to know if our eventual replacements were easier or tougher - just like the DMV examiners).

I took the test for the Non-Commercial Class A back in 1990 and the pre-flight was a major part of it. I had to physically do it and each thing that I checked I had to describe what I was checking, how I was checking it, why I was checking it, and whether it was something I checked at every stop, or just when starting out for the day.

Thanks for the advice....I didn't think about "leaks". A walk around is a requirement for safety and lights, but I didn't think it also applied for things like leaks. I will add this to my list.

I do understand about length and width resurrections but in general terms can I drive your California registerd rig legally with my SD licence in California??

Ron if I was not out of state now I would try and help but I really do have a SD Lic and will not be in California till February

Well Jim... that is a good question. But no, it (my temp license) specifically states: "Must be accompanied by a Calif licensed driver age 18 or over who has a non-probationary license valid for the vehicle being driven".

The first time i went to the DMV office, a ways away also, i brought my father in law to pretend to be my Class A driver, however, they scheduled me for the wrong appointment and told me i had to come back. The second time i went back i was just going to tell them that my ride went for a walk to get lunch, however, they never asked.
