While a lot of people don't live there it still effects them as well. California is responsible for a lot of the food we eat. The higher cost of fuel will be passed on to the consumer.
Most people don't seem to get the point that the increased taxes on the rich and corporations get passed on to those who buy the goods and services from them. I've always maintained that the only people who actually pay taxes are the Middle Class - the rich can pass them onto others, the poor get tax breaks. Businesses are only acting as tax collectors for the Government. - Fresno_Tundra_DExplorer

I don't care.
When you start responding to stuff you DON'T care about you have WAY too much time on your hands!!!! Last night I went to Costco and filled up all my garage gas containers in addition to topping off my truck... all for a $3.00 savings.(My wife is still laughing!!:) I don't care. I'm sick of corrupt California politicians misappropriating taxes they've already collected for wasted social programs and then passing things like this in the middle of the night. Our Governor said in 2010 that no new taxes would be added unless it was voter approved. Some are just fed up!!! - wing_zealotExplorer

Since most commodities are shipped by rail the cost to consumers is minimal. In any event, when CA lettuce becomes to expensive people will simply buy lettuce from Az or Mexico; or not buy it at all and eat cottage cheese from WI instead. I stopped drinking coffee when the price spiked a while back. In reality, the people in CA are the ones that will bare the majority of the burden; they got what they apparently want.

Hey dodge guy, What states are to the weat of Kalifornia. - ksg5000Explorer12 cents is bad enough - but if it's like Oregon the individual cities can add on their own taxes (Portland just added 10 cents). This just drives people to hybrids and electric cars and the govt still ends up with less money after the tax increase. Seems like most states are still struggling to find fair way to generate money to maintain the roads - govt misuse of road repair funds hasn't helped.

Doubtful that California's increased fuel taxes will make it to the roadways. I'm guessing PERS bolstering. - colliehaulerExplorer IIIWhile a lot of people don't live there it still effects them as well. California is responsible for a lot of the food we eat. Sooner or later they will have to move to a fee based upon miles traveled rather than gallons burned.
Our state is also talking about increasing our fuel taxes. Seems as though the increased fuel efficiency of vehicles has decreased the sale of motor fuels, the prime source of revenues for highway maintenance. Electric vehicles, using the same roadways, will buy no fuel at all, what then....... - jesseannieExplorerGot to pay for upkeep on the roads that all the RVs are wearing out.
