Campers friendlier?

Sitting here in the trailer, I have noticed a few things (especially after reading a series of negative rants about other campers which might be justified - I'm not criticizing anyone for posting).

I have found that campers are friendlier than the general population.

Am I just lucky, too much of a "glass half-full" person, or have some of you also noticed that.

It's also nice to see parents camping with their kids because too many parents are so busy today they don't spend much time with their kids. Parents that take the time to buy an RV (or tent) and spend a few days to a few weeks with the kids are doing a good thing in my book, they are creating memories that will be remembered for a lifetime.

Our family really enjoys camping and I'm glad I decided to take the leap with a popup 12 years ago.

  • We find campers to be a more friendly group of people. Folks speak to each other and, generally, look out for each other. I have never stayed in a hotel where people speak in passing. They act as if you have lost your mind for smiling or speaking to them.
If I am friendly to others I find they usually respond in kind. If you are looking for rudeness in others you can probably find it but I choose not to let others spoil my time camping.
  • I have had very good luck with other campers.

Usually the people I meet are there on vacation, so their grumblings and such tend to stay at home.
  • I recently listened to my DW of 51+years about my attitude with sales fplks, nurses, fastfood workers and a lot of others, I love talking with new folks but was not to friendly with the above and treated them rudely. My DW has been on me more and more about my attitude and I had a health scare a while ago and realized all those folks were trying to help me and I wouldn't let them. I reflected on my fellow campers and realized I was friendly as long as I was doing the talking but I was not listening to them.

We were confined to our home area for 8 weeks due to medical treatments I was receiving and I put a special effort into being cheerful with everyone. You know what? I'm much happier and I have some aquaintences that are really interesting and the treatments went fast , we met a lot of others with the same or similar inflictions and talked about everything and some of these folks have sad stories, some are extraordinary but all are our buddies. Life is much nicer and I even really listened to a long time friend of my wife who rubbed me the wrong way, he ain't so bad and there were really warm hugs yesterday when we left their beach cottage.

Do you want the point to my story or have you figured it out, let me know.

    Dave
  • Very friendly. Watching their kids and chatting. We like a ACE park that doesn't allow seasonal but you still see the same folks over time. It becomes "hey there's the Cyclone!" "The Montana is back." We are boaters so have people stop to chat about our Chaparral. It's good fun. :)

We find that parents watch their kids closely. Maybe due to the lake but we don't have the feral free range children issue. (Knock Wood!)
  • We've been RV'ing for 6 years now......really only had 1 bad neighbor (and that was only for one night), and really only seen 1 truly "grumpy" couple. Most folks are out to have a good time and relax.

eh, the people like you can easily be ignored. no use to give the nasties any thought. no person is taking the fun out of my vacations :)
  • we have only met nice people. I have been rving for over 15 years and "rarely' have I seen nasty people who do insane things. happiness is mostly in the cgs I have visited. Yes, campers in my neck of the woods are good friendly people!!
  • Despite all the negative posts and all the ranting here and other forums, I have noticed a general overall "happiness" among campers. Campgrounds are generally a “happy” place.
Recently I observed a set of grandparents bring their two grandkids aged 10 and 12 camping for two weeks. They allowed NO electronics! The girls rode their bikes, filed out coloring books and made frequent fishing trip with grandpa. On the last day, I struck up a conversation with the kids and asked them if they had a good time. They responded that they had a great time even without their “toys.”

Generally, most campers are happy as they pursue their hobby. Doesn't matter what type of camping unit you have. Before you say: “Yeah BUT,” I am speaking in GENERAL terms not specific experiences.
  • You're going to see a mix in the camping population the same way you do in the general population. I think it's great when I see parents walking through the woods with their kids, identifying different flora and fauna. When I see kids running wild through the campground while the parents are drinking around the campfire, I'm not so impressed.
