A dog bite is rarely deadly. A gun shot most likely is. A dog whether acting out of fear, training, or just a bad mood does not have the mental capacity to think about other options. YOU on the other hand should. You could get back in your camper, car, etc.. Or use the stick (mostly a non lethal deterrent) and before you say anything... YES I own guns. But I would only shoot a animal if my life or a loved ones life depended on it.
I'm giving Lwiddis credit on this. I don't think he's just shooting dogs that come into his campsite. I think he has had one time when a dog attacked him and he believed that the best and/or only option was to shoot.
