Depends on where you land. The place I was stranded at this winter, there was a permie guy, lived alone but had a lot of friends. Most nights there would be 3 or 4 humans and 6 or 7 off-leash pit bulls. My cat and I would take turns getting up to look out the window to see if they had gone in for the night yet. Cat and I agreed he should not go out till they went in.
I haven't been attacked by a dog, but my cat has. 3 days in ICU, 3 months hospitalised at home, 2 years later he still has pain in his hips and tail. The dog owner said he would pay the vet bills, but he only paid the first $2000.
If I could have shot that dog without hitting my cat or anyone else I would have, but there was thick brush and fast movement.
In the aftermath, for a bit I was hanging out with the dog while the owner was elsewhere. Perfectly nice sweet dog, just gave into his instincts until his human said stop. She was the one should have been put down, but the dog was instead.
